Guess the News Review

p_480_320_70356ce5-3332-4ce4-96d7-bc8fffa86725    Finger Arts makes a huge splash into the Appstore with one of the most creative, addicting, and exciting apps that I have ever seen. Guess the News is not your average word/news app. This game brings a whole new element to the word news. The game is simple you connect to the internet and it will upload hundreds of current news stories. You can then play a game from several news categories such as Nation, International, Entertainment, Sport etc… Once you select the category you want to play you can then play in either two modes Classic and Timed. In each mode you can earn either medals or trophies ranging from bronze to gold.

The gameplay consists of you trying to figure out the headline of the article. Depending on the difficulty you chose the amount of given letters will be different. You are also given the first sentence or two of the article in a small box at the bottom of the screen to help guide you. Your job is then to guess each word or two separately. The letters of those words are brought to the top of the scrambled letters and highlighted for you to choose. You can then either drag the letter to its proper spot or tap to instantly send it to the next open slot. If you get stuck the letter that you need will start to shake. This really helps if you are in a jam and cannot figure out the word. But be careful in timed mode, you must act fast! In the game the faster you act the more points you gain, as time goes on the score multiplier decreases so it is important to guess the news as fast as you can. Also for hard modes a vowel will be marked with a V in the slot so it makes it a little bit easier since the given letters range from little to none. You will have to solve 6 news puzzles to gain your trophy or medal. After you win or lose the game you can then read each article. You might think to yourself well doesn’t that exit the app? No Finger Arts has made an in game browser so you can view each article in the game itself! This is one of the greatest features of the game. Not only can you have fun but you can learn about current news stories.

guess-the-news   Overall Guess the News is an amazing game that will have you addicted in seconds. You will keep playing and playing to gain trophies and medals as well as high scores. You can also send challenges to your friends via email. The game also features many different languages with current news in those countries and regions. This could also be a great tool for those trying to learn a new language! Guess the News is one of the most surprising and unexpected games in the appstore that I have found. It is a gem that everyone should download and play it is just that amazing. The sound fits the game perfectly with fun sounds that all will enjoy. The graphics are incredible and have a very vintage type feel to them. There is not one thing bad about this game it has everything you could want and more. Please do yourself a favor and at least try the lite version of the game, you will not be sorry! The full version is excellent and only costs $.99

iFloat Review

Doodie Cycle makes their debut on the  iTunes appstore with the app iFloat. iFloat is a simple game but requires skill and determination to get highscores. The game is based on a high powered fan which you control by tilting your iPhone or iPod Touch. Hold your device straight up for 0% power and flat for 100% power. Most of the time you will be holding your device somewhere in between those two positions. The object of the game is to keep afloat a ball and stay in the  green zone. The green zone will give you the most points and it is the place you want to keep the ball in. If you can keep the ball there your bonus multiplier will increase and your ball will go on fire and crack the screen! The next zone is the yellow zone that is just above and below the green zone. If the ball reaches this zone you will start to lose points but the game will still continue. The next zone is the red zone which surrounds the yellow. If your ball stays in the red zone for just a few seconds the game is over.

You might be thinking to yourself this sounds easy too easy. You thought wrong! The zones will change direction either up or down causing you to make sudden movements to adjust the speed of the fan. Keep in mind that physics is in play in this game, you have factors of gravity. The fan gives more force to the ball when it is nearest to it and when its further away it needs just a tad bit more power to move the ball. You may decrease power to move the ball downwards but then you quickly need to give it a burst of more power to keep it from going too far and into the red zone. This game all takes place in a two minute time frame. Your main goal is to survive those two minutes and gain as many points as possible. It is quite a challenge! A warning to all, the game may be really frustrating at first but once you get the hang of the controls in a couple of games you will be addicted. You can also change the difficulty in the settings which allows for harder gameplay. In easy mode arrows will appear in the yellow zone to let you know which direction the grid is shifting as well as graphics to let you know how much power you are giving to the fan but in hard mode that all disappears. The overall graphics in the game are simple yet very nicely done and perfectly fit the style of the game. Doodie Cycle has many plans for iFloat including adding global highscores, Facebook connect, detailed game stats, and trophies. I highly recommend this game to everyone. The accelerometer controls are spot on and this game is truly such an innovation. You will be playing this game over and over and over again, it is just that addicting.

Bricks of Camelot Review

From Donut Games comes an exciting brick breaker game, Bricks of Camelot.  The popular computer game series Bricks of…(Atlantas, Camelot, Egypt…etc) comes to the iPhone and iPod Touch. This game features level packs that consist of 8 levels each. The game currently has 9 level packs for a total of  72 levels! Future updates will bring even more levels to play. The game is based on Camelot so the graphics are all from the medieval times. When you pick a level pack to play you have the option to play in either easy, medium, or hard difficulties with each having a certain amount of lives/bats and high scores to beat.

The games graphics are a visual masterpiece and are like no other brick breaking game on the appstore. Like every game of this type comes powerups. The good powerups that help you on the way are in green and the bad ones that try to poison you and make it harder for you to win are in red.  These power ups include arrows, which allows you to tap and shoot arrows out of the bat, lightning, causing a severe lightning storm to blast through some blocks, eagle, which find treasure for you to gain more points, extra life, expand bat,  multiball, poison, speed up/down..etc. The levels also feature many other objects in play such as wooden barrels, shields to catch with your bat when you hit their respective block which are worth many points, bags of gold, holy grail, and many other items that are either in your way or help you to gain more points. Some levels consist of fire which rapidly spreads through the playing field toward the bat, if it hits the bat you will lose a life but if you put out the fire with water or by hiting the ball towards it then you will be safe to continue on the level.  The game is nicely done. The bat is extremely responsive to your finger and you will never worry about missing the ball because it wouldn’t move with your finger. The game can be easy in the earlier levels of each pack but it becomes increasingly difficult and very fun to play. The music is nice as well and fits along with the theme. In the options menu you also have the option to change the color of the ball which adds a nice little feature to the game.

This is one of the best brick breaking games currently in the appstore and I highly recommend this game to everyone. With the amount of levels and difficulties you will be playing for a long time to either beat all the levels or beat Donut Games highscores. With the updates promising new levels in the future this game is surely a must have.

CSI: Miami Review

Gameloft, one of the leading iPhone/iPod Touch game developers has a smash hit with the app CSI: Miami. The game features one crime case where you travel around the city of Miami searching for clues, solving puzzles and mini games, questioning suspects, and talking with your fellow CSI co-workers. The characters in the game are all from the show including the most popular character Horatio. As you play a new game you can play on three difficulty levels and try to achieve the highest score in each. The game has beautiful graphics as well as cut scenes taken directly from the show which lack in quality but are still a good addition to the game. The characters in the game also have voice acting which is always a plus for any game of this type. The character’s voices are different then those from the show but are still nicely done. The game is a little too short lasting only around two hours or so. But after you complete the game you can play many mini games that were featured in the main storyline for some additional fun.

The game is well made and very fun to play. You need to search for things like guns, blood, water, broken glass, and fingerprints. Once you find the evidence you need to use a specific tool such as a glove, x-ray, pipette, and swab to collect it. Then you can take this evidence to the CSI lab and test them with other evidence and collect DNA samples that match your suspects. Once you have found a suspect you may question them, you will only get the information you need by questioning the suspect a certain way and showing evidence that you have collected to coax them. The storyline is great and you will want to play straight through to find out what happens. I thoroughly enjoyed this game and really recommend it for anyone who is a fan of CSI or any type of crime strategy game.

The Loop Blog gives CSI: Miami a 8.3/10 stars

CSI: Miami is currently in the app store for $.99 on sale from its original price of $4.99.

Tap Tap Revenge: Lady Gaga

photo-21Tapulous has yet again put forth another Tap Tap Revenge premium application this time featuring Lady Gaga. The game features Lady Gaga’s hit songs such as “Just Dance” and “Poker Face” as well as several other songs and remixes. As soon as you open the application you know you are in for a treat. You are graced with a picture of Lady Gaga and a news feed for all of your Gaga needs. You can then choose to play one player or two player modes. Choosing one player lets you play through songs on many difficulties and unlock boss tracks. When you play a song you are greeted with a very Lady Gaga like theme. It takes place in a city backdrop and the tappers roll down from a billboard that sports your score. Tap along to Lady Gaga’s fun beats and watch the background react to your taps. Hit the left and right lanes and the diamonds/gems on the side will flash. Tap the middle lane and the city will pop out at you.

photo-31

When you play and your multiplier streak gets higher Aces from a deck of cards will pop up on screen to notify you of how well you are playing. As you continue to play and keep your streak going to 50 notes, shake and enter revenge mode to turn the plain tappers to diamonds/gems themselves. These gems look like they are tumbling down the screen and add areally neat effect to the game. Play through the game and challenge yourself with multi-taps, hold notes, and shakes.

Enter your scores on an online leaderboard and compete with the many Tap Tap masters. Then you can also challenge a friend via email to see who is better at Tap Tap Revenge: Gaga!

Once you unlock the boss track in a given difficulty by completing the other tracks you are really in for a treat. These boss tracks add a new style of game play never introduced before in the Tap Tap Revenge series. This new method is landscape mode. Not only is it in landscape but there is one additional lane or rail to make it four all together. This brings on a whole new level of gaming in the series. Once you get used to the change the boss tracks are fun and challenging as well as stunning graphically.

This game is a very high quality game that will make you give you hours of fun at a time, it is just that addicting. The mix of Lady Gaga’s unique style and the brilliance that is Tapulous creates for some outstanding and unbelievable enjoyment. This game is recommended to not just fans of Lady Gaga or fans of TTR but for anyone who wants to have fun. The replay value of this game is indefinite and you will always feel the need to play it.

The Loop Blog gives Tap Tap Revenge: Lady Gaga a 9.9/10 stars. You can buy TTR: Lady Gaga for $4.99 in the iTunes AppStore.

Appy Entertainment FaceFighter Review

From Appy Entertainment, the creator of Appy Newz, comes a new exciting application called FaceFighter. Gameplay for this game was directed by Emmanuel Valdez who is known for creating the popular game Ready 2 Rumble. The game is simple yet very creative and fun for everyone.  You can choose to fight Big Ben, an in game character, or choose to create your own characters using your stored photos on your device or your built in camera. It is extremely easy to create a fighter, all you have to do is choose an image and resize it within the guidelines given. Once that is complete you can start fighting! Select a difficulty anywhere from “Apply Slappy” to Hard and its time to fight!

Fight!

The gameplay is simple just tap any of the four options given including punch, kick, and block to fight your opponent. When you damage your opponent funny graphics will appear on their face such as bruises, missing teeth, and a broken nose. Everytime you throw a punch or kick you get those famous comic book type sayings like kapow flashed in the background. The graphics are funny especially if you are using a created character. The gameplay yet simple is very fun and addicting. As you continue to play and hurt your opponent you will gain a special ability which is indicated at the bottom of the screen. Press the glowing circle to enter that special ability and use a tool such as a wrench to KO your opponent. The health gauge is located at the top under the fighter’s name and once you or your opponent’s gauge is drained the game is over. Your score is then saved to try and beat later.

Fight A Friend!

The game is fun  but could use some more features even though the ability to create a character is endless there is still some things missing. There should be more of a selection of in game characters and not just Big Ben as well as more then just tapping a button to fight. But for the price the game is well worth it. You will be spending plenty of time making characters and beating up your friends while laughing doing it. This game is fun and very creative.

The Loop Blog gives FaceFighter an 8/10 stars. You can buy FaceFighter in the App Store for $.99
